COTA_icon_512Gamebook Adventures 8: Curse of the Assassin is nearing completion and we hope to submit to Apple next week in readiness for a release in a few weeks time. This is a special title for us as it is the direct sequel to our debut digital gamebook release, An Assassin in Orlandes, which was released in way back in January 2010 and has since gone on to amass nearly 30k paid downloads across its lifespan and across multiple platforms (est. 150k downloads in total) . We’ve been really excited with this number especially as digital gamebooks are seen as relatively niche and we had no brand awareness or licenses in the beginning. We also had an unknown writer at the time and we started this adventure with very little money and almost no marketing skills. The whole journey so far has been amazing and we’ve felt privileged to be part of the gamebook revival in recent years! For that reason Assassin, and now its sequel, hold very special places in our hearts and we hope that fans of the original will enjoy wandering back into Orlandes again.

COTA_iPad_03Attentive Gamebook Adventures fans will notice that we’re labelling this release as GA8 when previously Infinite Universe occupied that GA number. We felt that the core GA series needed to be brought back to its fantasy roots, set in the land of Orlandes, and we have recently re-released Infinite Universe as its own stand-alone title (with a sequel we hope in the future). All future numbered Gamebook Adventures titles will now continue the epic stories set with Orlandes, Drymar, Rema, and beyond. We actually have a further five titles currently in development with two around 80% complete!

If you were not aware, Curse of the Assassin is written and designed by S.P. Osborne and takes you back to the familiar surrounds of Orlandes City where you pick up your life some time after the events of GA1. You’ve risen in society after dealing with Eltane and saving the city, capturing the affections of the Duke’s daughter along the way. The mysterious death of friend arouses your suspicions and once again you find yourself at the heart of conspiracy that takes you back to your home village and a meeting with your old adventuring party from your youth.

GA1 fans may recognise this creepy character from the first book. Expect a few cameos from characters in the series.

It is a fantastic mystery adventure thriller that races from Orlandes City through to the wilds of Orlandes and even out to sea! Pirkka Harvala, who previously illustrated GA1 and GA5, returns for his third gamebook and this time his wonderful artwork appears in colour for the first time!

Dan Maxwell has yet again provided us with a cracking cover for Curse of the Assassin. Who is the mystery Assassin this time?

We’re so looking forward to unleashing the second assassin! Expect to see this hit the iTunes App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore for Android sometime in late September! 1. Cover and oldman picture look great. Stick to this artist, guys.
And its good to hear you’re actively working on new titles. I just hope you wont just remake old Fighting Fantasy books, but develop genre further, adding new gameplay mechanics that fit in (MMORPGs can share alot of cool stuff), explore new genres and release expanding series like Fabled Lands.
